StoreCred vs Koin
Koin is free, rated 5.0 stars across 159 reviews, and carries Shopify's Built for Shopify badge. If you want cashback and loyalty, it is a very good answer and this page will not pretend otherwise. There is one thing it does not do at all — and that is the reason StoreCred exists.
The short version
Koin issues store credit for things you choose to reward: orders, campaigns, loyalty actions. StoreCred issues store credit for something that happens whether you plan it or not — a refund. Koin's listing does not mention refunds or returns anywhere, because that is not what it is for.
If refunds are not a meaningful part of your month, install Koin. It costs nothing and it is better reviewed than we are.

Where Koin is ahead, plainly
On price, on rating, on review count, on the Built for Shopify badge, and on loyalty breadth. Koin is a broader rewards product and has a path for migrating existing loyalty points. StoreCred does neither. A merchant comparing the two on cashback alone has no good reason to pay us $19 a month.
Where StoreCred is different
Refunds. When you refund an order, StoreCred surfaces it as a pending decision: refund amount, offered credit, optional bonus percentage on top, and the customer it belongs to. You click once and the credit lands on Shopify's native store credit balance. Or you don't, and nothing happens.
That approval step is deliberate. Refund-to-credit moves real money out of a real balance, and an app that does it automatically on a rule you configured six weeks ago is an app that can quietly overpay. StoreCred defaults to asking. You can switch it to automatic once you trust it.
Can you run both?
Yes, and for some stores that is the right answer. Both apps write to Shopify's own native store credit — neither keeps a proprietary ledger — so balances add up in one place rather than living in two systems. Koin handles the rewards you plan; StoreCred handles the refunds you didn't.
How to decide in two minutes
Open Shopify admin, go to Orders, and filter to refunded orders over the last 90 days. If that number is small, Koin alone is the better deal and StoreCred is not worth $19 a month to you. If it is a meaningful share of your orders, that is the volume StoreCred is built to convert into retained revenue rather than returned cash.
Koin's pricing, rating and feature details were read from its live Shopify App Store listing on 2026-08-19 and may change — always confirm on the listing before deciding.
